Ex-Marine, Damien Payne thought life would be simpler at home on the Laughing P, his family ranch. He had a promise to keep; he was going to marry Lexi, the girl next door. Too bad life isn’t a fairy tale. Treachery from friends and a former lover vie with his inner demons; leave him feeling broken. Will he learn that it’s okay to lean on family and save his love life?

I can't say that I typically read a lot of suspenseful romance novels, so although I started Cracked But Never Broken: Damien Payne's Story with an open mind, I didn't have any expectations.  Boy was I ever pleasantly surprised.

Damien Payne is a force to be reckoned with.....a typical drool worthy marine, which in his case is both a blessing and a curse.  He returned to a home that had drastically changed during his time away, and to a family who didn't understand why he was so oblivious.  He quickly learned that returning home and picking up where he left off with Lexi, the girl next door, wasn't going to work out like he had planned.  The story of Damien, Lexi, and the Laughing P is anything but a typical love story. Throw a couple crazy stalkers, some trouble making rustlers, a woman who's unwilling to take no for an answer, a girl tired of being let down, and a matriarch and things are bound to get interesting.

The story was one that easily pulled me in and made me feel like I was right there with the rest of the farm hands.  However, there were several instances, which I found myself having to reread parts in order to follow along.  If I'm being completely honest, which is something that I pride myself in doing, I felt as though less would have been so much more.  Having to focus so much on the story lines twists and turns took away from really letting me get attached to the characters.

So, with that being said Cracked But Never Broken: Damien Payne's Story is definitely one that gets my vote....I just suggest making it the only thing you focus on when you sit down to enjoy it.
